Opatija

Opatija (Italian Abbazia) is the charming seaside resort in the Kvarner Gulf known as the „Pearl of the Adriatic Sea“ and „The Queen of tourism“. The pleasant and mild climate makes it a perfect destination all year round. It is situated in a sheltered position at the foot of Učka massif that protects it from strong wind. The climate is moderately Mediterranean with mild winters and bearable summers. It is the oasis of rich history and culture whose tourist tradition was started back in 1844. It used to be a favourite winter health resort, today it is a desirable summer and winter destination for lovers of wellness and numerous tourists. It is adorned with great sights, like the Church of Saint Jacob in the centre of Opatija after whose monastery, it was named, summer Villa Angiolina that has hosted many notable guests, all the way to many beautiful parks, beaches and promenades. The promenade of Franjo Josip known as Lungomare is a favourite and magical because it takes you from the sea, trough the history of Opatija and her great sights such as the Maiden with the Seagull the most famous statue an symbol of Opatija.
